eXperience is an exciting year out course run by XLP and London churches. Live out and share your faith with young people from all backgrounds in London's schools and churches!
Experience life in the inner city and London's rich cultural diversity. Meet the challenge of living out and sharing your faith with young people from all backgrounds in London's schools. Build relationships with young people in a church youth group too.
Experience is designed to challenge, stretch and deepen YOU, in your relationship with God and with others.
Soul Survivor are very much behind the work of XLP and work closely with them.
"The Expereince provides an opportunity to work and learn from those having a huge impact with young people in Peckham and across South East London."
Mike Pilavachi
Get hands-on experience in London's multi-cultural inner city schools. It is a great chance to meet and build relationships with young people and to get to know them.
Be involved in lunchclubs, lessons and assemblies, with competitions, quizzes, talks, games and dramas, presenting themes that are relevant to young people and give the Christian perspective. Come alongside young people on a one-to-one basis and support them with reading in literacy classes.
There are two weekly training sessions on youth work and theology. In youth work the Christian response to contemporary social topics such as drugs, HIV and AIDS, poverty and homelessness are covered. Teaching is given by speakers from various Christian organisations such as Oasis, Tearfund and Hope UK and Mike Pilavachi and Tim Hughes of Soul Survivor.
In the theology training, topics such as "Worship", "Who is Jesus?", "Living the Sermon on the Mount" and "The Holy Spirit" are covered.
The course is based in London and so our key priority is to get you out there in the Capital. We hope to see you passionate about evangelism so that spreading the gospel becomes a routine part of life, rather than simply a chore.
There is also an annual overseas mission trip to Ghana during the year. It is a chance to experience a different culture, country and environment. XLP are partnered with AACO (the Ashanti-Akim Community Organisation) building a school in the Ashanti Akim region of Ghana and resourcing existing schools. This involves visiting schools, preaching in churches, doing street evangelism and praying for people.
There are opportunities to be involved in the various community projects that XLP run. Help young people you meet express and discover their talents through the arts.
The Arts Showcase is a performing arts event for young people from secondary schools. It is an opportunity and platform for those who can sing, dance, rap or perform music or drama to express their talents.
The XL-R8 Bus Project is a chance to meet and minister to those in the community. We aim to meet whatever needs there are, through homework clubs, after-school clubs, ESOL lessons and detached youthwork.
